…albeit another flat feeling game!

Last time we played St Neots the game felt flat and lacked energy in the atmosphere and today was the same, however we came away with a win again so it’s not too bad at all!

A drizzly one today so we were thankful for the covered dugouts and the fact that we didn’t have to travel for teas, plus the pitch was flat with no bounce whatsoever which was fine for us.

In the initial few minutes of the game our young legs of the team tested out the opposition defence, stretching their legs and getting in behind a number of times. A penalty corner soon came from a foot in the circle which Cath converted after gathering the rebound from her first shot, making sure the second went in. Another penalty corner saw Beth get on the score sheet for the second time this season. After the initial shot was saved and some confusion in the opposition defence, Beth made sure to tuck the ball away to give us a further lead. A back of stick tackle by Isla saw us defending a penalty corner which was nicely converted as the straight strike was like an absolute rocket and surpassed us all. Before half time we scored a third goal via Ilana and her excellent positioning at the back post meaning she could deflect the ball into the goal.
After half time, Steph added to the tally showing pure determination to get the ball in her possession and into the goal after a cross from player of the match, Georgie. The effort itself was deserving of the goal! A fifth goal came for Isla as another cross from Georgie came to Isla who ensured her first time slap made contact and found the goal. St Neots weren’t giving up though and scored two in fairly quick succession, taking advantage of a bit of confusion in our defence with positioning due to players needing to go off for injury. However, it was Kettering that had the last laugh as Georgie then got herself into the score sheet after a bit of a scramble in front of the goal.
A good win for the team today, with some excellent umpiring too - fair and clear!
