A rather dissatisfying win but it’s another 3 points!

As quite rightly said by Harri at the end of the game today, last season if we won a game 4-1 we’d be over the moon, and yet today, despite the win, everyone came off the pitch frustrated at the way in which we played. This in itself shows that we have such higher expectations of ourselves and whether it was due to complacency knowing we were playing bottom of the league, or dropping our level to match the opposition, who knows. Either way we did win and here is a description of the goals.
It took a while to find the first goal but it did eventually come, albeit a bit of a surprise. The scrappiness of the game meant the ball was pinging up in the air a lot meaning everyone struggled to get control of the ball. This happened in the circle as the ball was bouncing around the circle and a clash of sticks between Emma and their defender saw the ball almost fall into the goal. No one was really sure if it had gone in or not and so the celebration was practically non-existent.
The second goal came from a short corner where Caths strike towards the back post caught the foot of the defender before then going into the goal. Great to get Cath on the score sheet after so many assists in previous games.
After half time the opposition nicked themselves a goal despite some valiant goalkeeping by Amy, but as the ball bounced around, Kettering struggled to clear the ball and it soon found its way into the goal. This gave St Neots a lift and so their quick closing down of Kettering meant that we just continued to not be able to take control of the game.
Eventually we did find a 3rd goal as another penalty corner was won and this time Cath didn’t need the foot of the defender to help guide it in, she just smashed it into the goal via the far post.
The 4th and final goal came as a cross from Harri found Georgie in the circle who was able to keep the ball despite some questionable tackles to slot the ball in at the near post.
Three points and next week we play again away in Peterborough.
