It seems like the sun just waits till Saturday to show its face as it was another hot one, making the pitch sticky and slow for everyone today. Kettering seemed to struggle with the stickiness the most during the first half and were put under pressure by the opposition, being caught off guard with the way they moved the ball and not allowing us time to press. We absorbed the pressure though and were soon ahead as player of the match Beth, found Harri on the right who played the ball to Toni in the circle, and after a bit of left and right, spun to put the ball into the goal. Another should have followed quickly after as Toni was found again unmarked at the top of the circle but despite getting round the keeper couldn’t get the ball out of her feet in time to get the ball into the goal. Fortunately the second goal did come as a short corner broke down but the ball was kept live as it was then crossed in from the right. Harris initial shot was saved for the ball to then fall to Steph who made sure the ball went in with a hard, lifted strike. As fatigue started to set in, a player from Bourne found her way past a number of players into the circle, and a scuffed shot found its way into the goal. Not ideal as we went into the half time break.
The second half started quite even again but it seemed that Bourne were starting to struggle with the slowness of the pitch as a number of passes started to be picked off by Kettering. A number of opportunities presented themselves to Kettering to extend their lead but it wasn’t until a rebounded ball from the keeper landed with Georgia who then smashed the ball into the goal. Fro this point it seemed that Bourne lost their way slightly and Kettering picked their tails back up. Despite a few other chances the score line remained the 3-1 and we were certainly happy to hear the final whistle.
