Another win this weekend, albeit a bit of a tougher game for the ladies with the heat to contend with once again, a bouncier pitch and the distraction of having Ed Sheeran walk within metres of us during the warm up!

In the first 15 minutes it seemed that Kettering were going to repeat the goal fest from last weekend as we penned them in their end, winning short corners and getting shots in on their goal, but we couldn’t quite find the target.

Player of the match Imogen finally found the goal though as she found herself in space with time to turn and calmly slot the ball past the gk. As fatigue from the heat started to set in Cambridge had a few counter attacks as Kettering started to find themselves out of position but captain Beth aptly managed the defence to ensure these attacks were nullified.

We scored our second in the second half from a penalty corner as Harriet once again found the back of the goal, deflecting a cross from Beth. But Cambridge we’re starting to push back and it wasn’t long before they earned their only penalty corner of the game and with confusion in the defensive team from Kettering setting in again, they scored a soft goal.

The last 15 minutes of the game were then a bit touch and go as there were times where it felt like the game might slip away from Kettering but Cath showed her experience and helped to manage the centre of the pitch which is why she also earned a number of player of the match votes. Kettering did however see the game out with the win and the 3 points and we now currently sit at 2nd in the table.
