And we’re not just talking about the weather!!

Let’s just dive straight in shall we…. 8 goals, eight, EIGHT!!!!! We are all in a bit of disbelief as we aren’t sure we’ve scored that many in a full season let alone in one game!!

Steph was the first to open the scoring as we pushed up and put pressure on the opposition right from the push back. A penalty corner saw the ball taken wide and then crossed back in where both Steph and Emma F pounced towards the ball, with Steph being that fraction quicker to give us the first goal.

Player of the match, Harri, then scored her first as a through ball saw her 1-1 with the keeper and taking no chances she absolutely smashed the ball into the goal to give us the second.

A third followed again from Harri which was another absolute cracker of a shot from close range giving the keeper no chance of even seeing the ball, let alone time to react.

The fourth goal came as a quick free hit was taken by Cath on the right of the circle before being then struck in for Toni to get a beat deflection from to beat the keeper again.

Annoyingly we then conceded just before half time as the only defensive corner of the game went a little awry and Emma R lifted the ball past Amy in goal - but I suppose we can say we actually scored 9 goals today albeit in the wrong end!

At half time we knew we needed to start the second half as if the game was 0-0 again as we didn’t want to get complacent and knew Cambridge would potentially come back a little harder.

We soaked up a bit of pressure initially but it wasn’t long until the 5th goal came again from Harri whose 3rd goal was another sublime strike, bringing training form to the game.

Cambridge continued to try and play but were closed down effectively especially by Gracie and Sophie who earned player of the match votes today too.

The 6th goal was another close range rebound pinch by Steph following a bit of a scramble, and the 7th came as a penalty corner shot didn’t quite connect fully so was intercepted and played out only to go straight to Imogen who was being encouraged to shoot; the first shot was blocked but again fell to her and this time she didn’t miss!

The final goal of the game was once again, from Harri who really was on fire today having found her shooting boots so to speak.

An absolutely emphatic win which made the fact we were soaked by the end all worth it.

Oh and just in case people weren’t aware, Emma F has new astros AND new shin pads!!
