A must win game!

A wobbly end to a great first half but still a win and still in with a chance of league champions.
Quite the opposite to last time ladies 1sts faced off with Cambridge Nomads with most of Kettering’s goals coming in the first half. Ellie Darnell was first to add her name to the score sheet to add another goal to her tally off a rebound from a short corner. Kettering came under pressure for a short period of the first half but the strong defence dealt with attacks efficiently with Michelle Tanser putting in strong tackles and Katie Woolveridge dispatching the ball with strength and speed. Amy controlled her D and bravely came out to clear the ball. Kettering were able to make quick counterattacks as they transferred the ball around the back between Isla Harvey, Eleanor Izzard and Molly Hart. The second goal came from Issy Higgs after a cracking shot from top D. Kettering carried on the fluid attacks with Eva Carson, Cath Irwin and Ilana Jacobs linking passes together to manoeuvre the ball around the opposition. The momentum continued with Rose Starsmore Young and Georgia Brophy driving into the D making shots, but Ilana was next to strike the back of the net with a shot off a rebound. The last goal before halftime came from Issy for her second of the match. Kettering knew at half time they could not afford to throw away the win. Kettering had a chance to get another with a flick awarded unfortunately we weren’t able to convert it. However, Rose was able to strengthen the lead with a goal to make it 5-0 after Lucy Tanser had made strong leads up the pitch. Yet the last 20mins was a series of unfortunate events due to poor game management in which Cambridge scored 3 goals including one flick. On top of this Eleanor was given a green card and Isla received a yellow card. As the final whistle blew their was a sigh of relief from the support on the sidelines, an overwhelming sense of relief for the whole team but also a sense of disappointment that despite the win Kettering felt they had dealt with the last 20 mins in a sub par and abysmal manner. However a win is a win and Kettering only need to win the last game to celebrate a hopeful promotion. Well done to Issy who awarded Man of the Match for her tireless running, unmatchable skills, enthusiastic surprise to winning matches her never ending energy on the pitch.
