Kettering 6, Peterborough 1

A redemption game for Kettering ladies. With the disappointment from our loss last game, kettering knew they had to ensure they had a winning mentality in order to beat Peterborough 3s. It was deadlock in for the first 15 mins, with each team creating chances. Kettering’s best coming from a cross ball which both Ellie Darnell and Connie Shingles dived for, yet the ball glanced the post on the wrong side. Isla Harvey, Michelle Tanser, Gracie Gault and Eleanor Izzard defended short corners with Amy March making some good saves. But Kettering were first to score with beautiful play through Connie Shingles and Ilana Jacobs in the middle and a stunning pass from Rose Starsmore-Young to Ellie Darnell. Ellie slotted the ball in the back of the net. Kettering knew they couldn’t rely on this one goal lead. Half time came and Kettering were hungry for more goals. Yet, so were Peterborough who were able to equalise as Amy March came to the top of the D to clear the ball and possession was regained by Peterborough who made an audacious lob over everyone into the back of the goal. Kettering kept their heads up and made new advances from both sides of the pitch. On the right, Cath Irvin and Georgia Brophy working together to put strong crosses into the D. On the left, Issy Higgs and Lucy Tanser worked tireless to create space and break down Peterborough’s defence. Kettering were awarded for their hard effort with a penalty flick which Issy Higgs executed with perfection. The goals kept coming with Ellie getting her second of the night. Peterborough couldn’t respond as Katie Wooldridge defended well at the back and pushed forward to create more chances. Also Connie’s and Ilana’s dedicated man marking ensured the midfield were kept out of the game. The third of Kettering’s came with Issy getting her second from a wonderful strike which meant the keeper didn’t have a chance from the top of the D in a short corner. Rose then got herself on the score sheet with a goal with Ellie squaring the ball across for her to finish. The final goal of the game came from Ellie who found herself in space in the D and was able to put her third past the keeper to complete her hatrick and bagged herself the man of the match. Kettering ended the game 6-1 extremely happy with their efforts feeling like they had all had an amazing game and a great response to their loss last game.
