Kettering travelled to yet another game in Cambridge to play Cambridge Nomads 1sts.
With little time to warm up Kettering started sloppy going 1-0 down with nomads taking a shot from top of the D. Kettering couldn’t gain any momentum and went 2-0 down as Nomads broke through the defence. However, immediately after the restart Lucy managed to beat the keeper to offer something positive. To restrict Nomads building on their lead the defence tracked back with good tackles from Isla, Michelle, Molly, Katie and Eleanor.As the whistle went for half time,the team talk was not positive as there was a distinct lack of want to win in the first half. As the second half began Kettering knew they would have to do something special to claw back a win to put them back at the top. We began strong with stunning goal from Issy building momentum which resulted in another goal from a well won flick converted by Issy after battling from Connie and Cath in the middle. Issy scored her hat trick with textbook goal involving Michelle and Cath. Yet, there was a short lived threat of losing our strong lead when a player broke through our defence on a counter attack forcing Sophie to make an amazing save earning her a couple of man of the match votes. But Kettering were able to relax yet maintain a high intensity with Ellie making good leading runs. The momentum was maintained as Cath scored the 5th for the team with Eva scoring in quick concession to make the final score 6-2. A well fought 2nd half from a team with a winning mentality. After Pelicans losing, Kettering 1sts are back at the top of the table and yet to be beaten. Man of the match went to H for her brillant runs up the right and stunning crosses into the D.
