Kettering 1st entered the game positive with being unbeaten so far this season and after todays 1-0 win that continues. We knew it was going to be tough as Cambridge uni 3rds were at the top with us and were going to play the switch a lot. It was agreed we would hold and track across the pitch while maintaining shape. This was super effective forcing them back on themselves and high pressure from Lucy, Ellie and Gemma forced mistakes that we were able to make opportunities from. Unfortunately, the first half ended in 0-0 despite a couple of chances. As the game resumed Cambridge came back hard with quick passing which was dealt with by Connie’s communication in midfield with Ilana, Cath and Eva who pressured and made strong tackles. Kettering’s tireless efforts were rewarded with a short corner which we were able to convert with a beautiful goal from Connie which was a close range lift into the back of the net. But it’s wasn’t over yet, Cambridge rallied and made some good attempts by winning some short corners which were well defended by Isla, Gracie, Eleanor and Michelle. A brillant save by Sophie denied Cambridge the equaliser. Katie made strong tackles and held the attacks off but earned a green card. We were able to play out the rest of the game limiting Cambridge’s attacks and defending as a whole team to come away with yet again another win. Unbeaten and heading to Bourne Deeping next week. Super defending and runs up the right wing earnt Isla MOM.
