A top of the table clash lead to a messy game with the result as a 1-1 draw. A team with a new edition in the form of H knew it was gonna be a battle as similar to us Pelicans had won all their games so far this season. We started strong but so did pelicans dominating possession and having a couple of chances but Michelle, Molly and Isla held strong with Sophie making a couple of saves. However, Pelicans scored a debatable goal from a cross and a kick into the back of the goal as a result of a lapse in concentration from Kettering . We weren’t deterred and had a strong rest of the half. Kettering weren’t able to convert the couple of short corners they had however a shot from Michelle from the top of the D resulted in Kettering being rewarded for their hard work with a flick which Issy was able to convert with skill. On the other hand Issy was carded a few minutes later for a poor tackle. As the half time whistle went the team regrouped and decided that we needed to carry the momentum of the first half into the second ensuring we maintained tenacity and determination. We started strong stringing together strong passes and fabricated a couple of chances with Ellie and Lucy working in tandem that we couldn’t execute. On top of this Cath patrolled the middle of the pitch with Ilana and Rose using their skills to pass the ball up the pitch. Issy had another close chance but Pelicans keeper dived to deny Kettering the lead. The decisions kept going against Kettering and Ilana earned a yellow for not being 5. Yet we battled on seeing out the drew. Great team performance again. Ilana won man of the match due to her goods runs and battling in midfield.
