Kettering ladies travelled across to St Ives and immediately from the whistle Kettering started strong with a goal. A great link up play between Ilana and Rose allowed Ellie to play a beautiful reverse shot into the bottom left corner. Bish bash bosh! Kettering town continuously dominated by creating many opportunities including a ball that was spotted into the D by Rose who played it across only for it to be missed by a few players in the D unfortunately. Kettering still had to defend a couple of short corners but were successful in denying St Ives a goal. From open play St Ives put the ball in the D and from a deflection from Sophie, who played brilliantly maintaining good communication, for a goal that was disallowed due to a stick tackle. As the whistle went the half time the score was 1-0. The half time chat was positive and Cath reminded us to keep our shape. The second half started strong with Eva and Lucy working the wings alongside Patsy who dribbled strongly and put balls into the D. Ilana battled in the middle of the pitch. Rose continued to make strong tackles turning over the ball and pushing up the pitch. Connie, Michelle, Eleanor and Isla transferred the ball confidently around the back to create chances up the line but Kettering weren’t able to convert their opportunities. St Ives made a break through and their player carried the ball into the D but was denied a shot from the combined effort of Isla tracking back and Sophie commanding her D. For the last 10 minutes Kettering were stuck in their own half defending strongly but not being able to clear the ball away. Yet Kettering held firm and were able to see the game out for a 1-0 win. WHOOP WHOOP! Rose won player of the match for her tireless effort and great skill.
