Playing a mixture of Leicester 2nd and 3rd team we knew this would be a tough first friendly after the long Christmas break.

However, we were more than a match for this tough opposition. Looking back from where we started at the start of the season our passing has improved lots and supporting each other on the ball has also gotten better and better and both these things were working for us in large spells during the game. Player of the Match Imogen Smith was pivotal in this movement and support, spurring us on and pushing the team forward. At half time we were only 1 nil down and felt positive that we could get something from the game.

As the game wore on, Leicester got more into their stride and controlled the midfield through some intelligent passing and keeping possession of the ball. Shortly after half time they scored their second goal. This did not stop us working toward out goals for today which was moving the ball quickly and accurately and supporting the player with the ball.

Our goal came from one of our best passing plays of the day. The ball was moved quickly from defence to Mid to forward, a 3 pass move finding Charlie Fowle free on the top of the D as she had made a great move behind the Leicester defence. 1 on 1 with the keeper Charlie hit the ball as hard as she could from the top of the D. The power of the ball could not be stopped by the outstretched hand of the Leicester keeper. A goal well deserved form a good move.

However, Leicester showed some great skill to score their 3rd goal only a few minutes after we had scored.
Everyone, including the umpires, believe the game ending in a draw would have been a fairer result and Kettering were happy with their improving performance.
